I wanted to take private Portuguese classes after work in the comfort of my own home, and Brasil on the Hill was just what I was looking for!  The lessons were challenging but flexible, adapted to my level and interest, a perfect combination of speaking, writing, videos, podcasts and even music.  I would highly recommend Brasil on the Hill!

I was looking for classes to learn Portuguese and I am incredibly happy I found Brasil on the Hill. The classes were always well prepared and useful. I really enjoyed the pacing of the course and found the materials to be quite relevant. Happy to say that I feel like I have gained a solid conversational base in Portuguese and I have Brasil on the Hill (and my awesome teacher Valeria) to thank for that. Muito bom!

The slang workshop was excellent in every respect, fun and very well taught by Paula. We learned a lot of informal expressions that Brazilian Portuguese native speakers use on a daily basis, as well as some aspects of Brazilian culture that I found very interesting. Now I feel more confident in my comprehension of spoken and written Portuguese.

I´m very happy with my decision to have chosen Brasil on the Hill to learn Portuguese. The small class size, pace, and energy of classes provide a great setting without any pressure, especially since classes always include plenty of much-needed verbal practice into the mix! I also really appreciate the fact that my teacher Valéria doesn’t mind stopping class to answer questions and reinforce weaknesses, whether they be grammar rules, pronunciation tips or even asides on differences between everyday conversational Portuguese and what you´d learn in the classroom. I highly recommend taking classes at Brasil on the Hill for anyone in the DMV are wanting to learn Portuguese. Classes are a lot of fun and always make me look forward to the next one!

I had to prepare for a language exam and loved my private classes with Paula. The classes were so much fun and perfectly customized to my needs. Paula made sure we covered everything I wanted to go over. I will definitely try to sign up for a group class with Brasil on the Hill next!

I loved the Brazilian News workshop, taught by Fabiane. The class was a fun and engaging way for me to maintain my language skills while keeping up with current events in Brazil and expanding my professional network of local Brazil-ophiles! I had a fantastic experience engaging Brasil on the Hill for a short and intense week-long course. Valéria and my teacher (Paula) were very flexible with scheduling and logistics, which allowed me to get everything I wanted out of the course. In addition, the coursework felt customized, which allowed me to focus on the areas that I was most interested in or needed to develop most. Valeria, the founder of Brasil on the Hill and my teacher in two courses, has a great sense of humor and she uses it to create a safe, fun learning environment. I had a lot of good laughs in class while building a solid foundation of Portuguese, which I can now use for a work trip to Guinea Bissau. Obrigada!
